Fireworks

Fireworks complaints to the Kaneohe Neighborhood Board are common this time of year. People with emphysema are particularly at risk from the bad air associated with New Years celebrations. Allergy sufferers lock them selves up in a sealed room, and pet owners feed their pets tranquilizers.

In short, not everyone likes fireworks. The police and fire departments have a consistent position opposing all fireworks except those carried out by professional shows.

Be safe. Kids shouldn’t light fireworks. Limit the kids to sparklers and even then make sure they don’t step on a hot wire or play with them irresponsibly.

Have a safe and happy New Years. For more information regarding our fireworks laws and permits click here

Fireworks are an important cultural tradition for many in Hawaii. Tell us what you think.
