Patty Yamashiro-Hironaka recognized as Kaneohe Neighborhood Board's Person of the Year for 2015

Aloha mai kakou and mele kalikimaka!  As Chairman of our Kaneohe Neighborhood Board, I'm proud to report that at our regular board meeting at Ben Parker Elementary School on December 17, we recognized Patty Yamahsiro-Hironaka, former and long-time board member and passionate Kāne‘ohe community supporter, as the Neighborhood Board's Person of the Year for 2015 (citation below).

Upon conclusion of an abbreviated meeting, the board and the public were invited to a very fine potluck party where community members had the chance to meet and get to know board members and elected members and their representatives.

Please come and join us at our community meetings as our community engagement committee headed by Vice Chair Bill Sager and our volunteers Fred Collins and Bill Dixon has been working very hard to increase our community participation at our meetings and within our Ahupua'a.  Come see us!

Mo Radke, Chair Kaneohe Neighborhood Board

Patty's Citation:
The Kāne‘ohe Neighborhood Board wants to express our genuine appreciation to you for your many years of service to the Board and to our community by designating you as “Kāne‘ohe’s Person of the Year” for 2015.

Your many years of loyal service to the Kāne‘ohe Neighborhood Board and the greater Kāne‘ohe community is a wonderful example of service above self.  You’ve been a staple of intelligence, balance and thoughtfulness while conducting board business during meetings and during committee input.  You ensured our meetings were open and accepting by providing snacks and drinks at no charge to the City and County of Honolulu and you openly shared your mana‘o in many contentious issues which served to bring the conversation back to a focused and productive place.
Many of the things you and Yamashiro Building supply does for our community are largely done without fanfare or expectation of recognition.  From other sources, we’ve learned about your support for the Kāne‘ohe Christmas Parade or of the building supplies the store provides for community projects or a myriad of other stories of Ace Hardware’s good deeds in our community.
Patty Yamashiro-Hironaka is an exceptional example of community service to our community, and we at the Kaneohe Neighborhood Board, representing the greater Kāne‘ohe Ahupua‘a, want to thank you for your Aloha and years of service.
Aloha pumehana,
Mo Radke
Chair, Kāne‘ohe Neighborhood Board
