Ko‘olauloa Sustainable Communities Plan

Posted by Bill Sager, This is not an official position of the Kaneohe Neighborhood Board.
This bill will determine the future of the Windward Coast and North Shore of Oahu. Do you want to Keep Country, Country? Make sure your opinion is heard.

Call to Action: Full Council Meeting Wednesday, August 15th at 10 a.m.
Oppose Ko'olauloa Sustainable Communities Plan Bill 1, CD1, 2017!
Defend Oahu Coalition opposes Bill 1, CD1, 2017 Koolauloa Sustainable Communities Plan because now, in its amended version, it expands the community growth boundaries for housing into Malaekahana. At the August 2nd, 2018 candidate forum, sponsored by the Kahuku Community Association, the majority of candidates running for the Senate, House and City Council representing Ko‘olauloa did not want changes to the Ko‘olauloa Sustainable Communities Plan (KSCP) community growth boundaries and did not want homes built in “North Lā‘ie.” The Honolulu Star Advertiser also supported keeping the KSCP community growth boundaries and no housing development in “North Lā‘ie.” Testimony at the last Council Planning Committee meeting noted that the planned homes, and city supported sewer and water lines, to be built in “North Lā‘ie” is actually south Malaekahana and is really the first increment in developing a second city in Malaekahana. The full council will vote on this bill at the upcoming August, 15th meeting, so it is important that everyone send in testimony and call or email their council members to oppose this amended Bill 1, CD1, 2017.

Written testimony: Suggested testimony: "I oppose Bill 1, CD1, 2017 Koolauloa Sustainable Communities Plan because now, in its amended version, it expands the community growth boundaries for housing into Malaekahana. I do not support an increase to the community growth boundary of La`ie into Malaekahana. I do not support housing development in “North Lā‘ie.” (Add additional comments if you want to.)
This proposed development will increase the development pressure along the entire windward coast and will substantially increase traffic on Kamehameha Hwy and Kanekili Hwy.
Call or email your Council Member:
Ask them to vote against Bill 1, CD1 2017 in its current form. Tell them that Bill 1, 2017 should be adopted with no amendments. (Also see suggested testimony above.)
