Water Safety Kaneohe Bay

DLNR WILL LAUNCH PILOT
PROJECT IN KANEOHE BAY

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will undertake a pilot project to improve on-the-water safety in Kaneohe Bay this summer. The launch of the project is designed to coincide with the Memorial Day weekend that has, traditionally, been a time of increased boating traffic and heightened user conflicts in Kaneohe Bay.

DLNR, through its Division of Conservation and Resources Enforcement (DOCARE) in partnership with the U. S. Coast Guard will be increasing its presence in and around Kaneohe Bay to enforce:
• boating carriage requirements (life jackets, visual distress signals, etc);
• zone violations (in Ocean Recreation Management Area);
• Boating Under the Influence (BUI) violations, and;
• all other ocean recreation regulations under its purview.

For information on rules and regulations that apply to boaters, visit www.hawaii.gov/dlnr/dbor or call DLNR's Public Information Office at 587-0320.
