Education Committee Reports On Construction, Collaboration And More

Construction is under way at several area schools, the new report from the Kaneohe Neighborhood Board's Education Committee shows.

Castle High School is the focus of much of the work. Crews are replacing air conditioning in its auditorium and library.

Also in the works are roof replacements, fire alarm upgrades, disability-access improvements, emergency lighting for the auditorium and upgrades to the auditorium's sound and light systems.

The report was prepared by Education Committee Chair Lori Zakahi. Among other highlights in the report:

  • The Castle Complex Community Council (The C4) provides a forum for community dialogue and decision-shaping on matters affecting student achievement and school improvement in Kaneohe-area schools. The council has 20 members, including two students, four parents and two community members. The council meets on the 2nd Thursday of each month in the first-floor conference room of the Windward District Office, from 4:15 to 7 p.m. The meetings are open to the public.
  • Castle High School has earned number of firsts, including becoming the first public high school in the state to earn a 1st Team Safe Sports School Award from the National Athletic Trainers Association. Also, Castle's Makana Mele music group won its third championship in a row in the Brown Bags to Stardom State Music Competition, and Castle's boys volleyball team won the OIA Division II state championship.
